SODA FOUNTAIN STORY 1951 JA Silander ice cream history vintage article

Description:

Original vintage ice cream industry trade magazine article for THE SODA FOUNTAIN STORY by J.A. Silander, Sales Manager at Stanley Knight Corporation.  The origin of the ice cream soda is credited to Robert M. Green, a concessionaire at the Franklin Institute Exposition held in Philadelphia in October of 1874.  James Tufts was a pioneer soda fountain manufacturer.  In 1903 a fountain was developed incorporating syrup arms, draft arms, coolers and ice cream cabinet in one unit which fit under the front counter, and was installed in the Broad Street Station Pharmacy in Philadelphia.  The Sundae originated in Buffalo, NY in 1885 at Stoddard Brother, Inc. Pictured is a soda fountain around 1860, syrup pumps from 1880, 1929  fountain, and a stainless steel fountain from Stanley Knight Corp in 1951. Old 1951 3 page dairy article.
