Harley-Davidson's celebration of its 90th birthday in 1993 not only confirmed the extraordinary staying power of the company founded in Milwaukee by Arthur and Walter Davidson and Bill Harley, but it stood testimony to an enduring phenomenon - a unique bond between man and machine: the Harley riders from all stratas of society, individuals with a common unbreakable bond, and the Harley motorcycle. The Flatheads, Knuckleheads, Panheads, and Shovelheads, the customized choppers with their chromed sissy bars and fish tail exhausts, even the rat bikes - all compellingly photographed on location by Garry Stuart over a number of seasons - are examples of the evolution of the Harley into an American icon.
