The creation of Coflexip, in 1972, resulted from an extensive research and development program started in 1958 by IFP (Institut Francais du Petrole) to develop a new flexible pipe concept. Since 1972, Coflexip has developed at tremendous speed and is now active, through subsidiaries, in Houston, New Orleans, Rio de Janerio, London, Singapore and Tokyo.  The rapid development of Coflexip is basically due to the policy set up from the very beginning, whereby the company was not to limit its activities to selling high performance flexible pipe, but rather to concentrate on solving the customer's problems by developing solutions based on and extensively using the potential of Coflexip pipe.
