The FLUIDRILL is a bottom-hole automatic shock absorber design specifically to counteract the detrimental vibrations encountered in the rotating drill string. These are two outstanding basic benefits derived from the use of the FLUIDRILL; 1. The vibrations transmitted to the rig floor are reduced to a minimum and, 2. A known constant weight can be maintained on the bit at all times, thus greatly increasing the penetration rate. The FLUIDRILL is a simple hydraulic system which uses the drill mud to transmit the weight of the drill collars to the drill bit. The telescoping barrel permits a freedom of vertical motion between the drill string and the drill bit. Thus, the FLUIDRILL access both a shock absorber and a bottom hole automatic driller which keeps the bit firmly seating and cutting at all times.
