Dowell was organized in 1932 by the Dow Chemical Company, one of the worlds largest producers of chemicals. Dow chemists and physicists had developed a method of improving the producing characteristics of oil and gas wells through the use of inhibited hydrochloric acid. Dowell was established as a service company to take this new process called acidizing, to the oil fields.
