The Echometer is the number one instrument for determining the depth two liquid in the casing annulus of a well. The Echometer is compact, portable and simple to operate.  A blank shell is fired from a sealed wellhead attachment which is connected to the surface casing annulus valve. The sound pulse created by firing the blank travels down the casing annulus it is reflected by the collars, the liquid level, and other obstructions. A microphone in the wellhead attachment converts the sound pulses into electrical pulses. These pulses are amplified, filtered, and recorded on a strip of paper. It is only necessary to count the number of collars to liquid in order to determine the liquid level depth.
