Geophysical Research Corporation was organized by Amerada Petroleum Corporation in 1925 to investigate the possibility of applying geophysical methods to exploration for oil. In the first several months of operation, the company built the first electrical geophone, the first electronic amplifiers and the first radio equipment used in the oil industry. These originals are now on permanent display in the hall of petroleum of the Smithsonian Institution'.
