World's Largest Producer of Refractories.  In order to serve industry most advantageously, Harbison-Walker Firebricks are manufactured in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, Alabama and Texas and include the various classes for high heat, intermediate heat and moderate heat duty service requirements. The clays used are taken from the company's mines in those states and in Georgia, and embrace a wide variety of high-grade flint, semi-flint and plastic bond clays. The brick are made by the 'Hand Made,' the Extrusion or Steam Press' and the 'Power Press' processes to meet certain requirements brick are manufactured by a method which includes the application of a high vacuum during forming operation in both the Extrusion and Power Press processes. Brick made in this manner are harder, stronger, less porous and of course heavier than brick made in the usual manner. Control of particle size (sized grinding) effects a marked improvement in the desirable physical properties of the finished product. The firing is accomplished either in the periodic kilns or in continuous car-type tunnel kilns. Harbison-Walker fireclay brick are of the highest quality and workmanship and are the standard in industrial plants for all kinds of furnace linings and for service under any and all operating conditions for which fireclay brick or suitable.
