The Hawn Hydra-Shock Absorber is designed to eliminate the impact encountered by the drill bit, allowing longer bit life, faster penetration rates (bit is not bouncing off bottom), with less fatigue and damage to the drilling equipment. The impact of the drilling bit is absorbed by unique floating piston impacting against a column of oil escaping through a sized orifice. The piston is reset by a quick opening check valve actuated by pump pressure on the upper packing causing the floating piston to reset to receive another cycle of impact. The tool with its floating piston, orifice arrangement compensates without any adjustments for changes in drilling weights while in the hole. Bit torque is transmitted by a series of grooves and steel spines which provide easier up and down movement.
