For more than forty years, the engineers of Hydril equipment have been engaged in the development, manufacture and operation of well drilling machinery in various parts of the world. Their work in developing the rotary tool joint furnishes an example of contributions they have made to the betterment of the oil well drilling tools. They designed and made their first tool joint in 1898. Six years later, in 1904, after exhaustive tests in the field, they adopted nickel-chrome steel as the most suitable material for the purpose. This steel is now almost universally used for making rotary tool joints.
