The Nichols Herreshoff Multiple Hearth Furnace Incinerators for the complete, sanitary reduction of dangerous and offensive sewage solid wastes, including sewage sludge, screenings, grit or garbage is an adaption of the furnace used so successfully for over 50 years for the calcining and drying of ores, sludges, pigments, etc. Installations range in size from 4-tons to 1400-tons daily capacity. These plants are burning sludges of widely varying characteristics; raw primary, raw chemical and biochemical, raw activated, trickling filter, digested primary and digested activated. Also units have been built for the incineration of screenings and ground garbage in combination with sludge.
