'The Mosquito Menace in Dentistry'
You can swat a mosquito. And you do it with a sense of something worthwhile accomplished. But you can't swat a hypodermic syringe! Yet there is a distinct parallel. The proboscis of the mosquito probably suggested the hypodermic needle, the difference lying in the fact that the infinitesimal bit of poison is carried and injected by the insect; tiny, unseen germs, while a syringe is used for other, more humane purposes. But the hypo can be dangerous, too, even when used for the delicate injection of a local anesthetic. It is so important that the solution used to be absolutely sterile! There is no need to be concerned, however. You can always be sure you are using a sterile solution, for modern dentistry has brought forth a scientifically controlled local anesthetic, Proco-Sol Procaine Solution with Epinephrin.
