Rensselaer Tapping Crosses or Sleeves and Repair Sleeves are the only crosses and sleeves on the market which are built with two raised rings that are part of the casting itself. These rings are used as stops for the hemp or jute against which the lead is poured to make the joint. In other types of sleeves and crosses which are made without lead rings, the lead fills the entire space up to the point at which the cut is made. This lead is required to install our type of sleeve and cross than any similar type now on the market. These lead rings permit easier centering of sleeves and crosses on pipes when being installed, and it is possible to revolve sleeve across on the pipe, making it easy for the workman to tighten the nuts on the bolts which connect the two halves of the sleeve or cross.
