Shaffer Tool Works was founded in 1928 by William D. Shaffer. In 1968, it was bought by the Rucker Corporation, which was then known as Rucker Shaffer. In 1978, it was again sold NL industries, which then became known as NL Shaffer. In 1979, NL Shaffer purchased Koomey Control Systems in order to offer a more complete line of products. In 1992, NL Shaffer joined with Varco, which then merged with National Oilwell to be known as National Oilwell Varco in 2005.
