Technical Oil Tool Corporation, better known as TOTCO, was established in Los Angeles, California in 1929. With the use of TOTCO Drift Recorder, the company pioneered the concept of Controlled Vertical Drilling which is in general use throughout the world today. In the drilling industry, the TOTCO Drift Recorder is the acknowledged standard for use in the accurate measurement of bore hole inclination. In 1956, TOTCO introduced the first practical multi-pen drilling operation recorder, the TOTCO Drilling Recorder. This instrument has received wide acceptance for accurately recording various drilling parameters. Later, Pit Level and Mud Flow Recorders and Directional Single Shot Instruments were added to the product line. In 1968, TOTCO was acquired by Baker Oil Tools, Inc. and now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary.
