Hard covered book titled THE PAINTER'S CRAFT An Introduction to Artists' Materials by Ralph Mayer, D. Van Nostrand Company, 1948, 218 pages.

The frontispiece illustrates points brought out in several parts of the text concerning the color effects of pigments and the extent to which they are influenced by various circumstances. The swatches were made with actual pigments ground in an oil-resin vehicle and printed by the silk screen process. Consequently they are real paint films of appreciable thickness and they display actual color, opacity, and gloss effects instead of the approximation which would be shown by printers' ink.
