In 1936, when most oil field equipment was only haphazardly designed, Unit Rig started a new trend in draw works manufacture. Unit Rig designed and built the Model U-10, the first streamlined, compact and completely unitized draw works. Since then, by specializing in draw works, Unit Rig has maintained leadership in design. Unit Rig pioneered draw works unitization, air controls, air drives running in oil bath enclosures, narrow type compounds that permit draw works and power to be controlled carried on one truck. Unit Rig also made possible oil field application of direct air clutches, made use of Fawick Air-Flex as an engine clutch, simplified (two elements) automatic catheads, hydromatic brakes running at high speed separate from the drum shaft, air actuated automatic controls of hydromatic brake and other features. Precision manufacture is another field in which Unit Rig has lead. The latest tools and methods of manufacture and inspection are used to ensure long life of Unit Rig equipment and exact fit of replacement parts.
