The Anemostat is an air diffusion device consisting of hollow flaring members placed in certain relationship within each other. It assumes driftless distribution of any volume of air, at any velocity, and equalization of humidity and temperature throughout the enclosure. Through the expansion principle employed in handling air through the Anemostat, the velocity of air leaving the Anemostat is immediately reduced. By virtue of the placement of the hollow flaring members, multiplicity of air currents are created, traveling in planes or blankets at a variety of angles to each other, together with the multiplicity of counter-currents. Two of the flaring members act as injectors only, while the other members have the dual functions of ejectors and injectors. This construction compels a volume of room air equal to 35% of the volume of supply air to be drawn into the hollow members of the Anemostat, where the room air mixes with the cooled or heated air before the ladder is discharged. This is called 'aspiration'. The terms 'aspiration' and 'secondary air motion' should not be confounded. What is often called 'aspiration' should be called 'secondary air motion'.
